The basics
Does Obsession need an account?
No. Open it and start shelving.
Does it cost anything?
No. This version is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
Is Obsession on iPhone?
Soon. The iPhone version is in App Store review. On Android, get it on Google Play.Yes. Get it on the App Store, or on Google Play for Android.
The background didn't peel off my photo.
Cut-outs work best with one object, good light and a plain background. If the app can't find the object it keeps your photo as a card instead. You can retake it at any time.
How do I turn reminders off?
Flashbacks are off until you turn them on. On iPhone, tap You at the top of Home, then Settings, then Flashbacks. On Android, tap the profile button at the top of Home, then Flashbacks. Or turn off notifications for Obsession in your phone's settings.
How do I turn the sounds off?
Turn off Sounds in Settings. On Android, Sounds is also in the profile menu at the top of Home.
Can I move my collection to a new phone?
Yes, through your phone's own backup and restore (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android).
The love heart and slips
Where did my ratings go?
In version 1.1 the love heart replaced the 1 to 5 rating. Each thing kept its old rating as loves, so three hearts became three loves, and Top rated is now Most loved.
How does the love heart work?
Tap the heart on anything you own, as often as you like. Tap fast for a combo, hold it for a heartbeat, or double-tap the sticker at the top of the screen.
What are the little slips?
The first love of each visit, and every tenth love, prints a slip you can tear off. It might quote your own words, count your days together, or share one of your bragging rights. Tap it to finish printing. On a flashback, Still love it prints one too.
Bragging rights
What is Bragging rights?
An optional feature that finds the best things the web says about one of your possessions, with their sources and a few videos. Open a possession and tap Look it up. The AI features page shows exactly what it sends.
Why did it ask me first?
Because it sends the possession's name and description to our server and to AI services. It asks once, before the first look-up, and you can change your mind in Settings › Bragging rights.
It found the wrong thing.
Open the three-dot menu on Bragging rights and tap Not the right one? to fix the name. When it asks Which one is yours?, pick the closest, or choose None of these and type the brand and model.
It says the web's quiet on this one.
It couldn't find enough good things with sources. Your own words show instead. You can look again tomorrow.
It says Try again tomorrow.
You've reached a daily limit. Look again works once a day for each possession, and there's a daily limit on look-ups. Anything you already have stays put.
It says I'm offline.
Bragging rights needs an internet connection. Open the possession again when you're back online and it picks up where it left off.
How do I turn it off or clear it?
Settings › Bragging rights. Look things up turns the whole feature off, Look up new ones automatically stops automatic look-ups, and Clear saved write-ups removes them from your phone.
Your nickname
How does Your nickname work?
Tap Get your nickname on Home. After you say yes, it reads the names on your shelves and suggests five flattering nicknames. Wear one, or none.
Can I write my own?
Yes. Tap the profile button at the top of Home, open your nickname and tap Edit it. The same rules apply: it has to be kind.
It says Shuffle again tomorrow.
You can shuffle for new nicknames three times a day. Try again tomorrow.
How do I take it off?
Tap the profile button at the top of Home, open your nickname and tap Take it off.
Your data
Where are my photos and notes kept?
Only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them, so keep your phone's backup turned on if you want them to survive a new phone.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app, and clear its backup from your iCloud or Google account if you want that gone too. The privacy policy has the details.
Read our privacy policy and terms of use.
